The Host's Story

I want to reintroduce myself for those who might not know me. I’m Laura L. Bernhard and I’ve been practicing marketing for 8 years. I did my university degree in marketing as well.

I landed a marketing job in a B2B company early in my career. It was a confusing time. I had no access to a marketing budget, my ideas were all politely rejected and I worked in an environment where change was not well-accepted.

And after working in that culture for a few months, I forgot why I wanted to be in marketing altogether.

People would say "oh you’re in marketing that’s good because you’re creative." But in reality, I was feeling ashamed of my job.

My creativity was pushed away and I had to fight to improve everything marketing related. It was all very confusing to me. And it felt like I lost my passion and excitement for the role. I found ways to reignite that passion but overall, I was very confused.

I would ask myself if marketing was right for me. I asked myself if I chose the wrong field. Basically, I doubted myself every day.

Fast forward to 2022, I have several years of experience under my belt. I landed my current job as Director of Marketing at Assurance IT. The culture encourages new ideas and creativity and I execute all the projects I think are necessary to help grow the company.

And now that I’ve reached this point, I think about the years it took me to get here. I think of all the objections and corporate politics that I had to deal with. And I think of how much easier it would have been if I had some guidance sooner. I didn’t have a mentor inside the company to show me the ropes. And I know this is the case for a lot of marketers.

I know that the companies I worked for are not the only companies suppressing the talents of their marketers. I know that no matter how new you are to B2B marketing, that you are capable of accomplishing amazing things. And that is when I realized that I absolutely needed to dedicate this podcast to new B2B marketers to look good at work and help them advance their careers faster than I did.

So if you’re a marketer in B2B, you’ve absolutely come to the right place. The Marketing Bound Podcast is an educational, and hopefully entertaining show, that will help you advance your marketing skills, help you build your confidence, and provide you the tools you need to navigate the corporate world.

Every week, I will release a new episode tackling one of those themes. They will be a mix of independent episodes where I will tell you about my past experience. I will also bring you along the journey of my new role as Director of Marketing. I want to give you the inside scoop about everything that is happening.

Other episodes will feature conversations with B2B marketing leaders. You will have access to the best minds in B2B marketing. By listening to the Marketing Bound Podcast, you will be equipped with the marketing skills and the soft skills to advance your career. You’re going to look so good at work.
